The first two weeks of my Christmas break was fairly event filled and fun. I got to see some friends I hadn't seen in a while, along with getting to travel to Edmonton as well as Jasper, Alberta. For Christmas the family went out to the Cabin for a few days of R&R. The last 5 days or so was just sort of relaxing back at home and enjoying the days off. There was a lot of time spent shooting for assignments but I did get some time to take some photos when I wasn't working on assignments or visiting friends or family, although maybe not as much as I would have liked to. Here are some of those photos...
The first Saturday of our Christmas break I got invited to a friends Christmas party where we had a delicious dinner, had some drinks, had a gift exchange where I won a vintage popcorn popper, and we also played some games.
Next I was off to Edmonton to visit my best friend and his wife who just had their first child for five days. We went out to Jasper for a day and night, and it was no easy task travelling with a 1 month old baby. It was also no joy sleeping in the same room as a 1 month old baby, needless to say, not much sleep was had. The hotel we stayed at was the Marmot Lodge.
While in Jasper we went out and saw some of the Mountains...
We did some exploration of the town during the evening, however were disappointed that they really didn't have any Christmas lights out. Overall I didn't care too much for the town but they had a few nice gift shops.
While in town we went and visited the Wildlife Museum, which had some really nice displays of some of Canada's wildlife.
On Christmas Day, myself and my family went out to the Cabin for 3 days, which seems to becoming somewhat of a tradition as this is the third year we've done it.
At the Cabin we rode the quads on the frozen river and other areas around the cabin.
Every year we also do some ice-fishing, although I usually just end up watching, drinking a beer and taking some photos. Sitting out in the freezing cold (and it was cold and windy that day) watching some lines in a hole is not my idea of a great time. Here my brother catches a nice sized pickerel in between bud lights.
On our last night at the cabin I decide to take some photos of the tree, it was actually a lot of fun and I experimented a lot of christmas tree ball close-ups, zoom bursts and slower shutter speed light streak effects. Here's the tree and my favorite shot I took of it.
Overall I really enjoyed the Christmas break, it was really nice to get to travel, visit friends & family, take some photos, do a lot of eating, drinking, and sleeping.
However, I am excited to be back at School though and catch up and see my fellow classmates again!
